Tuolumne Grove and Hwy 120
October 20, 2007
My friend Gavin and I were looking for a place to see Fall Colors on day trip from Fresno. We did some research on Calphoto to scout good places that were nearing peak color. We read about a place called Tuolumne Grove that was supposed to have red dogwood. Tuolumne Grove is a Giant Sequoia grove near the junction of Big Oak Flat Road and Highway 120 (connects Manteca to Tuolumne Meadows). It's about a 1 mile walk downhill to the grove. As it turns out most of the dogwoods at the grove were in a lighter yellow shade. So we stopped at turn on Big Oak Flat Road that had a great mix of yellow, orange and red leaves. We also returned to a stretch of the Merced called Stinson Beach with Cottonwoods that we photographed a couple of years ago.
